What opens on 18 September in the Bogdánffy House
The Plan B Foundation opens a public space for contemporary art in an early nineteenth-century house. Its first exhibition hangs Piero Manzoni on the same wall as two artists from Cluj.
On 18 September 2026 the Plan B Foundation opens a public space for contemporary art in the Bogdánffy House, at Avram Iancu 1. The building, put up in the early nineteenth century, has been reworked for exhibitions, research projects and public debate. The principal sponsor is Banca Transilvania.
The first exhibition is called, simply, “Inauguration”, and runs to 22 November.

Twenty-two positions: Radu Abraham, Ioana Bătrânu, Alex Bodea, Erik Bünger, Jonathan van Doornum, Adrian Ganea, Fabien Giraud & Raphaël Siboni, IRWIN, Sanja Iveković, Jill Magid, Piero Manzoni, Fabio Mauri, Philip Metten, Jean-Luc Moulène, Ciprian Mureșan, Navid Nuur, Miklós Onucsán, Șerban Savu, Larisa Sitar, Lucy Skaer, and Mona Vătămanu & Florin Tudor.
The video programme adds seven more: Noor Abed, Simon Dybbroe Møller, Daphné Heretakis, Sasha Litvintseva & Beny Wagner, Jean-Daniel Pollet, Mary Reid Kelley & Patrick Kelley, and Ben Rivers.
Why that list is unusual
Piero Manzoni died in 1963. Sanja Iveković is Croatian, IRWIN Slovenian, Jill Magid American, Lucy Skaer British. None of them has any connection to Cluj.
Ciprian Mureșan and Șerban Savu do. Both are represented by Galeria Plan B — the gallery opened in 2005 by Mihai Pop and Adrian Ghenie in a city that then had no art market. Savu represented Romania at the 2024 Venice Biennale.
This is what it actually looks like when a local scene has gone out into the world and come back: not one Cluj artist invited somewhere else, but canonical international names brought home and hung on the same wall.
