Five creatives of the week: 8–14 September

“MELONLAND”, a solo exhibition, opened 9 September at 18:00 at Biju Gallery, Memorandumului 17. It runs to 26 October.

Of every artist currently exhibiting in Cluj, he has the highest measurable recognition: 90 searches a month. The gallery showing him has ten. The artist is searched nine times more than the place where he can actually be seen — reason enough for that place to be written down somewhere.

The gallery opens Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 18:00–20:00. Three evenings. Miss that window and you miss the show.

A hundred and forty searches a month, more of them from the United States than from Romania. A name Cluj hosts without looking for.

This is the pattern everywhere we look. The institution gets searched; the people who make it do not. This is a column about people precisely because the measurement shows nobody is looking for them.

Her current series took shape while wandering museum collections, among well-known works and anonymous artifacts, looking for the strange overlap of intimacy and violence when it is left unfulfilled. The question in her own text: what happens to an image as it passes through a chain of voyeurs?

No monthly searches. She is twenty-three and has an artist's statement better written than most of the galleries that could give her a wall.

The museum is open Wednesday–Sunday, 10:00–17:00, last entry 16:30. We took them from its own site. (Correction, 10 September 2026: this said the hours do not appear in the museum's Google listing. They do. What we confirmed separately is that the listing is unclaimed by the museum.)

Three conditions, all of them required. Something verifiable has to be happening that week — a date, an address, a published source. Not all five can come from the same place. And at least two have to be people nobody searches for.

That last condition is the one that matters. Without it the list fills itself with the same four names everyone already knows, and the column becomes another ranking.

We do not publish names we cannot tie to a dated, sourced event. The research behind this list turned up names with large search volumes that proved to be homonyms — entirely different people, in other fields. We left them out.
