Ciprian Mureșan was born in Dej in 1977, graduated from the University of Art and Design in Cluj in 2000 and still works in the city. In 2009 he represented Romania at the Venice Biennale; in 2017 he was in its main exhibition, “Viva Arte Viva”. He also showed at the Biennale of Sydney in 2010.

Solo exhibitions: the Museum of Art Cluj-Napoca (“Dead Weights”, 2012), the Ludwig Museum in Budapest (2015), S.M.A.K. in Ghent (2019) and MNAC Bucharest (2021). His work is in the collections of Tate, the Centre Pompidou and SFMOMA.

In 2024 he moved to the other side: he curated Romania’s pavilion in Venice, “What Work Is”, with paintings by Șerban Savu — two graduates of the same Cluj university, represented by the same Cluj gallery.
