The “Octavian Goga” County Library in Cluj holds the 30th Neighbourhood Library Days from 19 to 23 October. Events take place at the main building on Calea Dorobanților 104 and at the “Traian Brad” (Strada Izlazului 18), Zorilor (Strada Observatorului 1) and Grigorescu (Strada Donath 138) branches. For those five days, joining the library is free.

From the programme

On Tuesday 20 October at 10am, author and illustrator Dan Ungureanu runs an online storytelling lab, and from 5.30pm families are welcome at the “Traian Brad” branch for a workshop with writer Dana Ryffel.

On Wednesday 21 October at 9am, at the Zorilor branch, teenagers can join a round table on addiction with two counsellors from the “St Dimitrie Basarabov” Centre. At 6pm, at the Grigorescu branch, Alexandrina Megyesi of Clujul Copiilor leads an illustrated-story reading workshop.

On Friday 23 October, at the “Traian Brad” branch, younger children meet writer Cristina Dragoș, and from 4pm at the American Corner the American author Conrad Altmann reads “Seasons’ Stories”. From 5.30pm adults are invited to a “cultural speed dating” evening.

For teenagers

From 19 October the library’s site hosts AdolescenTeen, a blog for teenagers with reading tips, themed lists, a pop-culture section and one on wellbeing. The library also runs three activities in Centrul Cultural Clujean’s pilot project on socio-cultural prescriptions for young people.

Context

The American Corner, where Conrad Altmann reads on Friday, is a partnership between the US Embassy in Romania and the County Library, in the main building on Calea Dorobanților 104. It is an information centre on American life and culture, open Monday to Friday from 10am to 6pm, with books, talks, student advising and exhibitions.
