What gets searched is not what gets visited. We measured a second time, differently

Search volume says who is looked for. Google reviews say who was actually there. We collected both signals for fifty places in Cluj, and they do not overlap.

All the research on this site so far has leaned on a single signal: search volume. It is useful, but it measures intent, not presence. Someone who searches “muzeul de artă cluj” may never go.

There is a second, independent signal: the reviews people leave on Google. Only those who went leave them. We collected them for fifty places in this guide.

The overall figure

Forty-three thousand reviews, across fifty places.

Of those, the twelve art galleries in the guide draw one hundred and ninety-five. Under half a percent.

That is no surprise after everything we have written, but it is the first time we can say it with a signal that has nothing to do with Google Search.

The presence ranking

BT Arena: 6,493 reviews. The Students' Culture House: 4,950. The National Theatre: 3,189. The “Romulus Vuia” Ethnographic Park: 3,127. Cinema Florin Piersic: 3,008. The Casino — Urban Culture Centre: 2,518. The Art Museum: 2,076. The National Opera: 1,687.

At the other end: Aluvial 3 reviews, Atelier Patru 1, Galeria Parter 1, Camera 1.

Aluvial is the busiest art space in the city — thirty-two events in forty-five days. It has three reviews. The Art Museum has 2,076.

Where the two signals disagree

The Ethnographic Park has 720 searches a month and 3,127 reviews. The Art Museum has 20 searches for its hours and 2,076 reviews. Both are visited far more than they are searched by name — because people arrive by other routes: the map, a recommendation, walking past.

The reverse also holds: “opera cluj” draws 6,600 monthly searches, but the National Opera has 1,687 reviews. A performance is searched for beforehand; a museum you walk into and then leave a note about.

The practical conclusion for a guide: for performing arts institutions what matters is the programme and the ticket; for museums and parks it is the address and the hour. They are not the same kind of page.

The finding that was not on the plan

Twenty of the fifty listings are not claimed by the institutions they represent. Which means nobody at the institution controls them.

Among them: the National Theatre (3,189 reviews), the Art Museum (2,076), the National Opera (1,687), the Hungarian Theatre (931), the Students' Culture House (4,950). (Correction, 11 September 2026: this list also carried “the Transilvania Philharmonic, 535 reviews”. That figure belongs to the philharmonic in Târgu Mureș — our automatic match had picked up a different city. The Cluj philharmonic has no listing of its own: map searches return the halls it plays in.)

Together, the unclaimed listings carry 21,239 reviews. Almost half of all measurable presence of Cluj culture on Google sits on pages the institutions do not administer.

It also explains a mistake of our own. We had written, in two pieces, that the Art Museum's hours do not appear in its Google listing. They do, and they are correct. What is true is something else: the listing is unclaimed, so those hours are public contributions rather than information the museum put there. We corrected both pieces.

And one more, less pleasant

Twenty-three of the fifty places have no opening hours on Google at all. Not the small ones — the National Theatre, the National Opera, both Hungarian institutions, and all four of the city's cinemas.

Which is to say: precisely the institutions with the highest search demand are the ones Google cannot tell you the opening hours of.
