Muzeul Farmaciei

The museum occupies the ground floor of the Hintz House, sometimes called the Mauksch-Hintz House, a listed monument at Piața Unirii 28, on the corner of Strada Regele Ferdinand. The city's first public pharmacy opened in this building in 1573.

From 1752 the building was let to private pharmacists. The first tenant was Tobias Mauksch, who came from Bistrița and was also a dignitary of the Evangelical Lutheran Church across the street. In the second half of the nineteenth century the house and pharmacy passed to the Hintz family and stayed theirs until nationalisation after the Second World War.

The museum is a section of the National Museum of Transylvanian History. Hours: Tuesday–Sunday, 10:00–18:00; closed Monday. Phone: 0744 787 233.

In the same building, through the entrance at Regele Ferdinand 1, sits Centrul de Interes. Whoever comes in one door is a few metres from the other, and almost nobody knows it.
