Octavian Cosman was born in Ocna Mureș on 26 September 1940 and graduated in 1967 from the “Ion Andreescu” Institute of Fine Arts in Cluj-Napoca. He worked in painting, graphics, sculpture, mosaic and set design. His debut, the “Aquariums” cycle begun in 1967, was noticed at the time by Corneliu Baba, the Cluj branch of the Artists’ Union writes.
The Cluj-Napoca Art Museum held his retrospective “Gates of Eternity” from 10 September to 5 October 2025, curated by Dan Breaz, with a catalogue. The Doina and Octavian Cosman Foundation documents his cycles and exhibitions.
He died on 17 July 2026.
